Best Categories for Beginner Resellers
A beginner-friendly look at clothing, electronics, games, home items and niche knowledge.
For those just getting started in reselling, some categories on eBay are better than others. Items that are easy to understand, easy to post and have low purchase costs are usually the best to begin with. At the start, you are not only looking for the greatest profit. You are trying to learn how the process works without risking too much money.
Clothing is one of the easiest categories for new resellers to test. Clothing can be relatively cheap to purchase and does not take up much storage space. However, clothing can take longer to sell, and buyers may return items if they are unhappy with the fit or condition.
Small electronics such as headphones, keyboards, calculators, cameras and gaming accessories can also be worth exploring. These items can sell well, but the reseller must check that the item works properly before buying where possible.
Video games and gaming accessories are popular with beginners because demand is easier to understand. Games, controllers, headsets and older consoles can all have resale potential. As with all items, condition and pricing still matter.
Home items such as small appliances, lamps, tools and storage products can also work, but postage can be a problem. Large or fragile items may cost more to ship and can remove a lot of the expected profit.
For beginners, one of the best categories is usually one you already understand. If you are into gaming, start with gaming. If you understand fashion, start with clothing. Product knowledge helps you spot value and avoid overpriced items.
